OP Newsletter: Round Robins, Bisbee, and One Busy Fall Season

By Matt F Schmidt, 11/09/16, 11:00AM MST

* We have a tailgate on the UA Mall this weekend, November 12, from 4-8PM including games, food, beer from our sponsor Dragoon, and giveaways.  Look for our banner at North Eastern corner of the mall next to the tennis courts!

*High School Rugby has kicked off the season. Practice is on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6-8pm at Rillito Park. Coach Kyle Knutson's Lions will be battling to defend their State Title.

*On November 19th, the men and women will be participating in a Round Robin day of rugby at Estevan Park from 9-5pm featuring OPRFC (men and women), Tucson (men), Scottsdale (men), Grand Canyon University (women) and NAU (women). Come out, have a beer from Dragoon and enjoy a full day of rugby.

*On December 10th, the men have been invited by the Friends of Warren Ballpark from Bisbee to host the Bisbee Cup against Scottsdale, which will bring rugby back to the town after a 100+ year hiatus. Warren Ballpark is the oldest active rugby pitch in Arizona, and the proceeds will go to keep the pitch healthy and alive. This is a very exciting event and an honor to be a part of.

*OPRFC is in the process of forming a committee to organize and fund Engage, a charity designed to provide more recreational opportunities for kids. For more information, email or check it out.

*We continue to stress the importance of registering with OPRFC to become a member of our club. Registration allows us to get critical contact, medical and other information from you. For alumni, registration allows us to keep track of what you are up to so we can send you business and other perks.

*We are always recruiting, whether you a man or woman,  new or old to the sport. Now is especially a good time to join us as we prepare for our upcoming season. If you have questions, please contact Matt Schmidt at or check out our Frequently Asked Questions.

*For more information about upcoming events, including matches, training, yoga, boot camps, practices, socials, community involvement and much more, check out our calendar or join us on Facebook.
