Engage

Engage had over 60 kids at our clinic and over 30 kids at all five league days.  The program has been a big enough of a success that the kids and parents/mentors want more. As a result, we will be hosting Rugby Sundays every third Sunday of the month at Rillito Park from 9:00-10:30. This will include instruction, drills and games.

We still need more support from current OPRFC members. For more information, contact Matt Schmidt at Mschimidt@azinjurylaw.com

The Women's Premier League (WPL) Championships are being held in Tucson at the Kino Sports Complex on Friday, November 10th and Sunday, November 12th. OP Lightning is coordinating volunteers for those two days. Anyone who signs up for a shift during the day (aka not solely set-up or take-down) will get put on the list for free admission the day they volunteer. Sign up now to secure your spot!

Lightning is hosting the Sonoran Series on November 11th at Estevan Park. It will be a full day of women's rugby with a round robin between the San Diego Surfers B-side, Tempe Ninjas, NMSU and OP Lightning. We'll also hold a motley crew game for any other women's rugby players who are in town and want to play. Come hang out and watch some rugby! The plan is to have food and beer options throughout the day. RSVP to the Facebook event to make sure you get the latest info.

Engage

Our charitable Youth Program has been a huge success.  Over 65 kids showed up at our clinic from all over the place, including the Boys and Girls Club, Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Tucson, The Arizona School for the Deaf and Blind, the military and more. Each kid received a bag with a rugby ball, bag, water bottle and T-shirt. Approximately 45 kids decided to continue with our Thunder Cubs Youth Flag Rugby League, which will take place every Sunday in October at Rillito Park from 9-11am.  Kids who do not have cleats have been given their own pair with help from The Shop.
