Old Pueblo Lightning hosted a strong and determined Pasadena Royals side on Saturday 11th of February. Pasadena was well coached and prepared in the counter ruck and in the maul. Their scrums were solid and they had a number of very athletic players. All this made for a difficult day for the Lightning.
After a mostly scoreless first half, Lightning held onto a 5-nil lead well into the second half. Pasadena stole a great number of balls from the Lightning in the rucks, in the scrums, and in the lineouts. Lightning’s defensive skills were tested repeatedly throughout the day. Pasadena scored twice, putting them in the lead 10-5. We held firm and, in the dying minutes, individual and athletic efforts allowed Lightning to score 10 unanswered points to win the match 15-10.
The Lightning should be proud of keeping their spirits high throughout the match and focusing on the achievable goal of playing hard and winning. There were great individual efforts in tackling and attacking throughout the day. We saw new players and returning players get some quality game time. Hats off to the players that put 100+ minutes on the pitch for A and B side play.
