In rugby and our community, to engage is to get involved. It is to tackle the challenges in front of you. It is to put you and your team in the best position to do great things.
Engage is a nonprofit started by the Old Pueblo Rugby Football Club to give more kids a chance to try the fastest growing sport in America in a fun and safe environment. Because rugby requires mental and physical grit, discipline and teamwork, Engage helps kids thrive by showing them the invaluable life skills rugby naturally instills. Once a part of Engage, the kids become a member of our club—an irreplaceable family of lifelong brothers and sisters.
Rugby is the fastest growing sport in America. Though adult rugby is primarily a full contact sport, youth rugby offers safe, non-tackle touch leagues for kids as young as six. To give more kids an opportunity to join this movement, OPRFC’s Engage provides the following programs:
*Hosting mini clinics at the Boys and Girls Club summer camps and donating balls to each clubhouse for their use while we are away.
*Hosting approximately 100 kids from local nonprofits in our Big Annual Clinic, which provides each kid with an athletic kit including bag, water bottle, rugby ball and jersey.
*Inviting kids who want more to participate in our Fall Youth Camp, a non-tackle program every Sunday in October that will include coaches, referees, training and two hand touch rugby games.
*Donating cleats to participants in our Fall Youth Camp who could not otherwise own a pair of their own.
Engage has also partnered with the Boys and Girls Club of Tucson, Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Tucson and USA Rugby to make this program especially great.
